CAMDEN - A state grant will allow a port operator here to reduce its carbon footprint.
The South Jersey Port Corp. will use the $6.6 million grant to retire 23 pieces of fuel-burning forklifts and cargo-handling equipment, according to a statement from the agency.
The port then will replace those items with electric-powered units and charging equipment, the statement said.
The port plans to convert all of its energy-consuming assets to zero-carbon within the next decade as suitable replacement equipment becomes commercially available, it continued. ....

Port gets funds intended to help environmental justice communities

The port plans to convert all of its energy-consuming assets to zero-carbon within the next decade as suitable replacement equipment becomes commercially available, it continued.
Murphy provided the funds as part of a $100 million push to promote clean-energy alternatives, the port operator said.
The campaign will seek to benefit environmental justice communities, which typically are low-income neighborhoods with high levels of pollution.
Among other measures, it earmarks $36 million to electrify port, cargo-handling and other medium- and heavy-duty equipment in port and industrial areas, Murphy s office said.
The funding also includes $15 million for NJ Transit bus electrification and $13 million for electric school buses and shuttle buses in low- and moderate-income communities. ....

PAULSBORO, NJ – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) joined New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy alongside EEW, Ørsted, legislators and members of the building trades, today to announce a $250 million investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to build steel components, known as monopiles, for offshore wind turbines that will serve the entire United States offshore wind industry.
