Just after lunch on the fourth day of the Test, at 386-4, VVS Laxman square-drove the persevering Glenn McGrath’s effort ball. Taking the edge, it flew head-high towards Shane Warne at a wide first slip. Leaping to his right, arm outstretched, Warne clung on. Laxman, having batted for over a day, hitting over 30 boundaries and cruising towards his double-century, walked back as Eden Gardens (and every Australian, led by Warne) applauded.
