The arrival of 15 enormous green plant pots in Walsall has prompted criticism from local residents, who say they re a waste of public cash and look like something from Super Mario Brothers .
Walsall council has been slammed for splashing taxpayer pounds on the oversized planters, which have been arranged throughout the town centre.
Birmingham Mail reported that the spending has come at a time its local authority is being asked to cut £29m from its budget - and these plant pots don t look Cheep Cheep.

We ve had so many shop closures in the last few years and the best thing the council can come up with is these garish monstrosities, local florist Andrea Loveridge told Birmingham Mail. ....

We re all familiar with the iconic green Warp Pipe, right?
As devoted fans of Mario s classic platforming adventures, we d very much welcome the idea of a few Warp Pipes dotted around our local town centre, but some residents in Walsall, UK aren t quite on the same page.
As reported by Birmingham Live, Walsall Council has spent taxpayers cash on some new plant pots to promote a feeling of wellbeing and safety and to enhance the town centre. The council has received a total of £1.5m to spruce up two areas in the West Midlands town, and Councillor Adrian Andrew says that the new planting aims to create a more social space outside the Walsall Art Gallery. ....

A town in England attempted to add some color to the streets with a set of oddly familiar planters for the public. Some are wide, some are tall, all seem to have the same distinctive thick top lip, all appear in downtown Warsall. They all also come in the color green – a very bright green that, along with the shape, might remind you of a certain sewer pipe the likes of which appear in every Super Mario Bros. game since inception.
“It beggars belief,” said local florist Andrea Loveridge, speaking with Birmingham Mail. “It makes the place more like something from Super Mario Brothers. They look like those warp pipes Mario jumps down.” ....

Local residents in the UK town of Walsall aren’t happy about the 15 giant green planters that have recently been installed in the town centre, with many pointing out how they look like the warp pipes found in
Mario games.
As reported by
Birmingham Mail, the pots were bought and set up in town using taxpayer money. This hasn’t gone over well with folks there who find the pots ugly, and question if these Mario-esque planters were the right way to spend funds during a difficult time for Walsall. Currently, the city is trying to cut £29 million ($52 million) from its budget. ....
