The Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education recognized Amber Carithers, an English teacher at Hutchinson High School, during the board s regular meeting on April 12. Carithers is a regional winner in the Kansas Teacher of the Year competition. The state Teacher of the Year will be announced in September. Carithers began her career at HHS during the 2013-14 school year. She was the Davis Teacher of the Year for HHS in 2017-18. She also received The Hutchinson News Amazing Teacher Award and was nominated for the state Horizon Award for new educators and the KTOY. Hutchinson Schools are currently conducting signup for the district’s summer learning opportunities for students from kindergarten through high school. ....
Leadership Everyone Announces Celebration of Leadership Nominees 2020 was a rough year that saw every aspect of our daily lives turned upside-down. Businesses found themselves under restrictions that not only limited the number of people who could be inside their establishment, but also put a dent in their ability to make a profit, and nearly every non-profit in the area saw a dip in donations thanks to the cancellation of annual fundraising events. However, as the old saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. We see it any time a problem of any kind arises. Certain people step up to lead the charge, refusing to let the situation get the best of them and their community with innovative and creative ideas.
