Unemployment rate falls another tenth to 3.1 percent
The Vermont Department of Labor has reported that the seasonally-adjusted statewide unemployment rate for February was 3.1 percent. This reflects a decrease of one-tenth of one percentage point from the prior month’s revised estimate of 3.2 percent. The comparable United States rate in February was 6.2 percent, which was a decrease of one-tenth of one percentage point from the revised January estimate. The decline is largely due to a sharp decrease in the Labor Force from January. The number of unemployed also fell. Both the Labor Force and total Employed represent about 30,000 fewer workers than a year ago, which was pre-pandemic.

Vermont to mail new unemployment tax documents

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP)
The Vermont Department of Labor is finalizing plans to mail new tax documents to everyone who received unemployment benefits last year.
The department is resending the 1099-G forms to everyone who received them after tens of thousands of people were sent tax documents last month with information about other people.
“We know claimants are eagerly awaiting their new 1099-Gs from the Department, and we want them to know they should expect them next week,” Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington said in a Tuesday statement. People could receive multiple 1099-G forms if they collected unemployment benefits from more than one program during the 2020 calendar year, especially if their unemployment was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
