Former ANC Amathole regional secretary Teris Ntutu says the party’s step-aside rule was a blessing in disguise after he graduated with an LLB degree from the University of Fort Hare on Wednesday. Ntutu had to step aside after the National Prosecuting Authority in 2022 reinstated his corruption case, which he believed was influenced by his detractors as he maintained his innocence.
The ANC’s acting secretary-general, Paul Mashatile, has called on the party in the province to provide him with reasons for disbanding the Amathole regional leadership. Mashatile, who wrote to provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi on Wednesday, reminded the provincial leadership of the resolution taken in September regarding the disbanding of ANC structures ahead of the national conference next week at Nasrec, in Johannesburg.
Suspended ANC Amathole regional secretary Teris Ntutu on Monday evening blasted the party’s provincial executive committee after it decided to disband the region. Provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi told a virtual press briefing Amathole was suspended for “defying” the party’s provincial leadership directives and for failing “to save itself from itself”.
Just a few months after being elected to the ANC provincial executive committee in May, controversial former ANC Youth League deputy president Andile Lungisa faces the danger of losing his seat in the 35-member PEC after the national ANC suspended him from all party activities until September 2023.
