Ninth KZN nun succumbs to Covid-19

Durban - A ninth nun at the Assisi Convent on the South Coast in KwaZulu-Natal succumbed to the second wave of Covid-19 on Monday morning.
The nuns, who are members of the congregation Daughters of St Francis of Assisi in Port Shepstone in the Diocese of Umzimkulu, contracted Covid-19 and died days after a celebration on December 8.
“There are sisters who were admitted to hospital on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The nun who was admitted on Saturday died this morning (Monday). Ten of the sisters are in quarantine in the community. We are all facing the same storm and it requires us to be vigilant in order to wade through these trying times,” said leader of the congregation, Sister Dominica Mkhize. ....

Nine nuns have died as the second Covid-19 wave continues to spread in KZN

Another nun has succumbed to the Covid-19 cluster outbreak at the Daughters of St Francis convent in Port Shepstone.
This brings the total number of deaths to nine, while 24 others have also been infected.
The Mercury earlier reported that eight nuns between the ages of 75 and 88 had died in just more than a week.
Archbishop William Slattery, who is the spokesperson for the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference, confirmed on Monday that nine nuns had now passed away.
Elmara Skhakhane, Leonissa Nzimande, Colleta Msomi, Anastasia Mthetwa, Amara Madlala, Edmunda Nkomo and Helen Cele, lost their battle against the virus. ....

Among the latest afflicted are the Daughters of Saint Francis in Port Shepstone, Marianhill Diocese, KwaZulu Natal. The deaths of six religious women were announced by Sr Nkhensani Shibambu CSA, who is President of South Africa’s Leadership Conference of Consecrated Life LCCL.

Vatican News, Friday evening, Sr. Shibambu said that the Sisters died within the last seven days.

Sisters Elmara Skhakhane FSF, Leonissa Nzimande FSF (78), Colleta Msomi FSF (78), Anastasia Mthetwa FSF (86), Amara Madlala FSF (75) and Edmunda Nkomo FSF (80) passed away as a result of COVID-19. Second Wave of Covid-19 Hits Catholic Church Religious Communities


It is with great sadness and shock that we announce the death of six sisters from the Daughters of Saint Francis in Port Shepstone, Marianhill Diocese. Sisters Elmara Skhakhane FSF, Leonissa Nzimande FSF (78), Colleta Msomi FSF (78), Anastasia Mthetwa FSF (86), Amara Madlala FSF (75), Edmunda Nkomo FSF (80) and Helen Cele (88) passed away as a result of Covid 19.  The sisters all died within a period of a week, from 10-17 December 2020.  Fifteen other sisters are said to be critically ill. 
Sisters Elmara Skhakhane FSF and Leonissa Nzimande have already been buried. Sisters Colleta Msomi FSF, Anastasia Mthetwa FSF, and Amara Madlala FSF will be buried on Saturday 19 ....
