AN education unit in Parr has scooped a national award in recognition of the work it does promoting positive outcomes for pupils.
St Helens Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PACE), on Derbyshire Hill Road, recently completed the national nurturing schools programme, which looks at developing and embedding a nurturing culture in school, focusing on emotional needs and development as well as academic learning.
The unit, which provides support for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, has developed an ethos and inclusive culture based around six key principles that include the classroom being a safe base, language being a vital means of communication and the importance of transition in children’s lives. ....
