Alleged $2.7bn oil theft case: Court refuses to unfreeze Shell's 20 bank accounts

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, refused to vacate the interim Mareva injunction it made directing 20 commercial banks to block Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, SPDC,) and its subsidiaries’ bank accounts.
Trial judge, Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, in her ruling, also summoned three of the banks’ secretaries and chief financial officers for allegedly disobeying the order made on January 25, 2021.
The court ordered the alleged contemnors to appear before it on the next adjourned date of March 29, 2021.
Justice Oguntoyinbo warned that their failure to appear would result in a warrant of arrest being issued against them. ....

Army warns Gumi, others against disparaging remarks

The Nigerian Army has cautioned Sheikh Ahmed Gumi against tarnishing its image. The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, in a statement yesterday, urged the Islamic cleric and others to exercise restraint while delving on military matters.
The document read in part: “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a viral video showing the respected Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, alleging that non-Muslim soldiers were responsible for the attacks against bandits.
“In the clip, the Islamic scholar was seen telling the bandits that the soldiers involved in most attacks against them were non-Muslims. He further stated that they should be aware that soldiers are divided into Muslims and non- Muslims. ....

Kaduna: Bandits neutralized in aerial missions over Birnin Gwari, others - State govt


The Kaduna State government on Monday confirmed the killing of bandits during an aerial mission over Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun local government areas buy troops.
Confirming the reports, on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State said platforms conducted armed air reconnaissance over locations in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun local government areas, where the bandits were neutralised.
“According to operational feedback, bandits were sighted at a location 6km west of Anaba, which was then engaged with rockets. After the strike, fleeing bandits were mopped up with cannons.
“Other locations were reported calm with no suspicious activity, such as Rikau, Galadimawa, Kidandan and Yadi. ....

How Nigerian military killed deadly bandit 'Rufai Maikaji'

Combined forces of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Airforce has killed a deadly bandit leader ‘Rufai Maikaji’.
An announcement by the Kaduna State Government on Thursday said ‘Rufai Maikaji’, and his gang was terrorising the State.
The gang is being held accountable for the killing, kidnapping and cattle rustling in many communities in Giwa, Igabi and Chikun LGAs
Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said the leader and dozens of his fighters were killed around the fringes of Malul Forest in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, by Nigerian Air Force jets in an aerial interdiction conducted in concert with the Nigerian Army. ....
