news reports say there was an explosion near the president s motorcade, but his aides are dismissing those reports. whit johnson has the latest details. reporter: iran s president mahmoud ahmadinejad was waving to supporters when something exploded. you can see smoke the background and bodyguards appear to shield their president. a conservative website in iran say it was a homemade grenade but english language television says there was no attack on the president. there was no such thing. it was a firecracker. reporter: denial expresses concern this was a serious attempt and may reflect not all is well in iran. after the explosion mahmoud ahmadinejad gave a scheduled speech but never mentioned the possible attack. if it was a failed assassination attempt, no one has claimed responsibility. mahmoud ahmadinejad s popularity has dropped recently. the economy is down and u.s. sanks are making things worse. they have enemies in and outside of iran. there s been a lot ....

leak and contain the oil is finally close to coming to an end. and we are very pleased with that. michelle franzen joins us from venice, louisiana. we just heard from admiral thad allen about the latest on killing this well. that s exactly right. that s exactly right. the static kill, describing it as the blownout well, now in static condition. they were able to pump the mud down there successfully, push the mud down in the reservoir, and they are now in control of the pressure of that well. they move on to what they re calling the bottom kill. that could be the final kill, the cement plug, and the relief wells that would permanently stop the leak and keep the well from leaking once again. as you mention, those numbers that noaa released. recovering the oil from the well site, as well as some estimates. there s about 26% of the oil they cannot account for. it s either on the surface, beneath the surface or already mixed in with the sand that s coming ashore. they ....
