Senate panel deadlocks over Kristen Clarke nomination to head DOJ's Civil Rights Division


 
Ms. Clarke previously worked in the division and is the current president of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, a left-leaning group that advocates for racial justice.
Republicans on the committee attacked Ms. Clarke with claims she will defund the police, ramp up Justice Department investigations into local police departments and ignore voting rights violations when Democrats are implicated.
The conservatives also hammered her on an op-ed she wrote in Newsweek last year that appeared to advocate defunding the police.
 
The article headlined “I Prosecuted Police Killings. Defund the Police But Be Strategic,” was published after last summer’s death of George Floyd while in the custody of the Minneapolis police. ....

Top Senate Dem Says They're Building an Obstruction of Justice Case Against the President


Top Senate Democrat Dianne Feinstein said the Senate is looking to build a case against President Trump for obstruction of justice.
Smashing hard drives with hammers, destroying emails, and using Bleach Bit on material requested by the DoJ apparently isn’t obstruction of justice in Hillary’s case.
She told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press, “The [Senate] Judiciary Committee has an investigation going as well and it involves obstruction of justice and I think what we’re beginning to see is the putting together of a case of obstruction of justice.”
“I think we see this in the indictments, the four indictments and pleas that have just taken place and some of the comments that are being made,” Feinstein added. ....
