SunStar File photo February 22, 2021 THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental has ordered a halt on all sea trips in the province over the weekend after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hoisted Storm Signal No.1 in the province due to Tropical Storm Auring. Captain Ludovico Librilla, acting PCG-Negros Occidental station commander, said around Saturday morning, only vessels weighing above the 250 gross tonnage were allowed to sail due to a gale warning in Western Visayas. Several fastcraft operators plying the Bacolod-Iloilo route were also allowed to continue with their trips, as some of the vessels they operate are above the 250-gross tonnage requirement. ....
SunStar February 18, 2021 THE state weather bureau’s station in Mactan, Cebu has advised the public, including the people living in prone areas, to prepare for Tropical Storm Auring, which is expected to bring 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall in Cebu and other parts of Visayas over the weekend. Flooding is expected as every one millimeter (mm) of rain is equivalent to 5,000 drums or barrels of rain per square kilometer. The disaster management offices of Mandaue City, Medellin town and Cebu Province have started to prepare for the impact of Auring. Jhomer Eclarino, weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan, said Auring was expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm before it makes its first landfall in Caraga by Saturday evening, Feb. 20, 2021 or Sunday morning, Feb. 21. ....
SunStar + February 17, 2021 AS TROPICAL Depression Auring entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) has issued a heightened alert status in the province. Dr. Zephard Caelian, head of PDMPD, also warned that the typhoon may hit the central part of the province if it does not change course and is expected to traverse the province either on Sunday, February 21, 2021, or Monday. Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson reminded Negrenses to be alert and ready to follow instructions. If there is a need for preemptive evacuation then let s follow that, he said. We should pray that it will change course, Lacson said, adding that tracking is being closely done on the typhoon and that it has the tendency either to go down or go up. ....
