Herat Hosts Two-Day Event on Ancient Poet Nava’i A two-day event was launched in the western city of Herat on Wednesday on the 580th birth anniversary of prominent philosopher, poet and writer Amir Ali-Shir Nava i. Envoys from seven countries, including Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Iran have attended the event that discusses the legacy of the ancient poet. Nava i was born in Afghanistan’s Herat province in 1441. He died in 1501. During his lifetime, Herat was under the rule of the Timurid Empire and it became one of the leading cultural and intellectual centers in the Muslim world. ....
Dostum: Al Qaeda Footprint Seen in North of Afghanistan Former Vice President Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum on Wednesday said that there is still a presence of some top Al Qaeda affiliates in northern Afghanistan who have close ties with the Taliban. Dostum said that Nasruddin, who is the grandson of Al Qaeda s founder Osama Bin Laden, and Saifuddin Haqqani, the son of Sirajuddin Haqqani, are currently in the Ghormach and Bala Murghab districts in the north. In a trip to Herat, a high-level delegation from Uzbekistan described the poet Nava i and his legacy as a common heritage of both Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, and a connecting bridge.
