We can expect from that final showdown. People are sending in ballots at a record pace. How they are turning in speaks to a level of distress this year. Reporter we had hotly contested elections before but people always thought this is somewhat legit, now no matter how hard officials work to secure theres been a lot of doubts on the minds of voters. A steady stream of people visiting the Elections Office to place their ballots into the dropbox out front. I have heard comments from voters that really appreciate these boxes and lets them know that its going straight from their hands to ours. Reporter people have seen the news reports about fake drop boxes and one that was lit on fire in Southern California so some people are worried they are refusing to drop box in front of the Elections Department and going inside to physically hand it to a clerk. Wand that answer people will mention the need for help for the jobless, the threat to mall sp small businesses, problems paying their rent or mortgage and the need for health care. But you what wont hear will be the need for a space force. Or more nukes or an overseas slush fund for the pentagon. You certainly wont hear about the need for more cost overruns or fraud and abuse from defense contractors. But thats exactly what we have. Weve increased our military spending almost 20 in the last four years, at a time of relative peace. But we have not kept up with our needs like health care, education and, of course, fighting the coronavirus. And yet we spend 90 times more on defense than we do the centers for disease control. 740 billion for the pentagon is a lot of money.
