AFTER the Worcester News last week launched the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards 2021, we look back at when a pregnant mum won our Care Hero prize in December 2020. On Friday, we kicked off the 2021 Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards, which are run by Newsquest’s Worcestershire titles, including the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette and Evesham Journal. The aim of the awards is to champion those teams and individuals that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to care for people during the Covid pandemic. There are 12 categories, and finalists will be chosen by a panel of experts and the winners will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony broadcast live on our website and social media channels in April. ....
A PREGNANT mum who has been an inspiration during the Covid pandemic has won our Worcestershire Care Hero 2020 award. Amelia Trivett, who cares for individuals with life-limiting or terminal illnesses, received 56 votes from our readers who voted in their dozens for award nominees. Amelia, 25, who is due to give birth to her second child early next, year said she was thrilled to receive the award. “It feels so lovely to have won, I feel really grateful,” she said. “I really didn’t expect it but I feel really honoured.” Amelia, who lives in Hampton near Evesham with her son Edward and partner Jack, works as a carer for a company called Priceless Care, and during the pandemic she worked seven nights a week for six months, caring for one family. ....
Throughout the Care Heroes campaign, we have helped to shine a light on those that do all they can to care for others. Caring for others can be as simple as collecting shopping or doing laundry but even more importantly at the moment, it can also be just being there to lend an ear or being a constant presence in someone’s life, can be caring too. Loneliness affects more than 1 million older people nationally and around 35,000 in Worcestershire. Christmas for many is the most wonderful time of the year, but this isn’t the case for everyone. This year, Coronavirus restrictions have only heightened what for many can be an incredibly lonely time. ....
