St. Scholastica’s Johnson, UW-Superior’s Heidenreich Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award
Next in the selection process will be conferences picking two nominees to represent them at the next stage.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – This week, the NCAA released the names of the 535 nominees for the Woman of the Year award.
Some local names on the list include St. Scholastica’s Hannah Johnson and UW-Superior’s Amber Heidenreich. Johnson is a Two Harbors native and finished her career tied for most tournament wins in program history, as well as the best career scoring average. Heidenreich led the Yellowjackets women’s hockey team in both points and assists and is also a member of the track and field team.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Ryan R. Glau
On April 28, 2021, the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Marine Corps Detachment held a retirement ceremony for Master Gunnery Sergeant Ryan R. Glau at the EOD Memorial wall, marking the close of a 24-year career of service in the United States Marine Corps. At the ceremony, he was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. The citation included recognition of his exceptional leadership, extensive military knowledge, and untiring dedication to duty. The Marine Corps Detachment presented Glau with a United States Flag flown over the Joint Service EOD memorial. In a letter presented at the ceremony, President Donald J. Trump extended his personal thanks and appreciation for Master Gunnery Sergeant Glau’s honorable service to the country.
UWS Announces Commencement Will Be Virtual May 15
The University of Wisconsin Superior has announced that their spring commencement ceremony will be virtual this year. The commencement will happen on May 15, 2021. People can watch the virtual ceremony that takes place at noon on May 15 online through the University of Wisconsin Superior s website.
In a press release UWS has said that while there isn t an in person ceremony, they will still hold an event where graduates can walk the stage. They want to give graduates a chance to experience as much of a normal experience as possible. They will have the opportunity to walk the stage and receive their diploma from UWS Chancellor Renee Wachter. They also can pose for a picture.
The oldest graduating student is 69; the youngest is 20.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will conduct its virtual commencement at noon Saturday, May 15, with viewing available at uwsuper.edu/grad2021.
Among the 431 candidates for graduation this spring, 134 are first-generation students, 108 are graduate and specialist degree candidates and 32 are student veterans. The oldest graduating student is 69 years old with the youngest student earning a diploma at 20 years old, according to a news release from UWS.
While there will not be an in-person ceremony, graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage and Chancellor Renée Wachter will present their diploma and pose for a picture.
