French ambassador: Mullahs' regime should never possess nuclear bomb

France will never allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, its ambassador to Israel said Wednesday evening in a Bastille Day address at his official Jaffa residence.
“The mullahs’ regime should never possess the nuclear bomb,” Eric Danon declared, speaking in French at a July 14 celebration, which was attended by President Isaac Herzog and Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
Instead of a light speech focusing on culture and history – the usual fare for such an occasion – Danon chose to offer a robust affirmation of the French-Israeli relationship and the joint effort to fight mutual security threats. ....

Israel summons French ambassador over Le Drian's 'apartheid' remarks

Israel summoned the French ambassador on Thursday in protest over French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian’s statement that the Jewish state’s policies toward the Palestinians risked a “long-lasting apartheid.”
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi told Ambassador Eric Danon that Le Drian’s comments were “unacceptable, baseless, far from the reality and Israel rejects them out of hand.”
“Israel expects its friends to not express themselves in an irresponsible way,” the statement read, according to The Times of Israel. Ashkenazi called Le Drian’s comments “in effect a prize to extremist elements and terror organizations, first off the Hamas terror organization.” ....

Ashkenazi summons French envoy for dressing-down over FM's 'apartheid' remarks

The Biden administration has decided it will not renew a waiver that allowed a politically connected US oil company to operate in northeast Syria under president Donald Trump’s pledge to “keep the oil” produced in the region, according to a US official familiar with the decision.
Treasury Department rules prohibit most US companies from doing business in Syria. The waiver for Delta Crescent Energy was issued in April 2020, months after Trump announced that he wanted to keep some US troops in the oil-rich region to maintain control of the oil profits.
Trump’s “keep the oil” message is no longer US foreign policy under the Biden administration, and using the US military to facilitate Syrian oil production is deemed inappropriate, according to the official, who is not authorized to publicly discuss the decision and speaks on condition of anonymity. ....
