Thursday, 29 April 2021 - 17:11 The highest number of COVID cases in the country was reported yesterday (29) with a record of 1,466 cases. This is the second consecutive day that the number of patients reported in a day has exceeded 1,000. The highest number of patients were reported from the Colombo District, which was 228. Meanwhile, when PCR tests were conducted on 14 persons in Divulwewa, Anamaduwa, 12 of them had tested positive for the virus. The persons diagnosed were identified to be relatives and had attended several Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations together. Random tests which were carried out at the Galenbindunuwewa weekly market have diagnosed several fish traders with the coronavirus. A tense situation arose when the authorities decided to take measures to close the weekly fair. Four persons who obstructed the duties of Public Health Inspectors were also arrested. ....
