The world’s largest online retailer is investing $200 million in Shreveport to build its first robotic fulfillment center in Louisiana. Amazon Regional Director of Operations William Hicks says the state-of-the-art facility being in North Shreveport will provide more than 1,000 jobs.
“We provide our employees with at least $15 per hour and comprehensive benefits from the first day on the job,” said Hicks.
Hicks says since Amazon launched its operations in Louisiana it has grown its workforce to more than 2,000 employees.
Governor John Bel Edwards attended the announcement. Edwards says it was over a year ago when Louisiana Economic Development dedicated the 135-acre site in Hunter Industrial Park where Amazon will locate their robotics facility. Edwards says it was teamwork that was responsible for making it a reality.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - An Amazon robotics fulfillment center will be built in Shreveport, Governor John Bel Edwards announced Friday, May 7 at a news conference.
Construction on the $200 million facility will start in the fall of 2021 and is expected to be complete by September of 2022. The center will bring about 800 construction jobs and 1,000 full-time jobs with benefits to the city. Starting pay for these full-time jobs is $15 per hour.

The $200 million capital investment project will be built in Hunter Industrial Park in north Shreveport near Interstates 20, 49 and 220. The project is expected to create 1,000 full-time jobs, 1,118 new indirect jobs and 800 construction jobs. If you add all that up, $200 million and almost 3,000 jobs that is tremendous anywhere in the United States of America, Edwards said. But we are here talking about northwest Louisiana and Shreveport in particular. This is going to have an impact all across the economy of northwest Louisiana as more and more people have access to this construction and to the contracts.
