Janelle Meoño named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year as 9 Arizona softball players earn all-conference honors

Janelle Meoño was one of nine Arizona softball players to receive Pac-12 honors on Sunday. The UA outfielder was named the Pac-12 Freshman of Year and made the All-Pac-12 First Team after winning the conference’s batting title with a .442 average, 28 points higher than the next hitter.
The speedy slapper is the first Wildcat to be named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year since
Katiyana Mauga in 2014. The redshirt freshman is also the second straight UA player to win the batting title.

Arizona softball facing must-win series at Oregon: ‘There’s no ifs, ands, or buts’

The No. 7-ranked Wildcats probably need to go something like 4-4 over their final eight regular-season games to earn a top-8 seed in the NCAA Tournament, which would mean the right to host Regionals and Super Regionals, the easiest path to the Women’s College World Series.

Carlie Scupin is only in her first year with Arizona softball but is already making a name for herself as one of the most powerful hitters the storied program has ever seen.
On Saturday, the freshman became just the sixth player in UA history to land a homer on top of Gittings Gym, a multi-story building located well beyond the right field fence.
The solo shot helped the ninth-ranked Wildcats run-rule Cal 9-0 in five innings in the first game of a two-game series. The finale is set for Sunday at noon.
