Although Lithuania missed the 1960s feminist revolutions, it made strides in the 2000s towards ensuring women s protection from domestic violence. However, the progress has begun to stall.
Ten years ago, the country adopted the Law on Protection against Domestic Violence, which led to an almost tenfold increase in reports of violence. NGOs and women s rights advocates hailed the law, but say it leaves gaps that the Istanbul Convention, if ratified in the country s parliament, could help fill.

Although Lithuania is ahead of its neighbours and many EU countries in terms of Covid-19 vaccination, the process suffers from a lack of clarity and changing priorities.
Insufficient vaccine deliveries and changing vaccination schedules are only a few of the problems that Lithuania currently faces while carrying out Covid-19 vaccination.
In late March, the government again changed its vaccination priority list to include the country’s top officials as well as members of the parliament.
The list was eventually updated with education, cleaning and catering workers, school-leavers, mayors, and people with chronic diseases. Supermarket workers, however, were left out despite the initial plans to include them as well. ....

Although Lithuania is limiting the use of AstraZeneca shots to people under 55, an expert panel advising the government argues the vaccine offers enough protection to older recipients as well.
According to Ligita Jančorienė, head of the Centre for Infectious Diseases at Santaros Clinics, the results of clinical trials show that the AstraZeneca vaccine generates similar immune responses across all adult age groups and provides 100-percent protection against severe disease, hospitalisation, and death.
The panel also notes that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved AstraZeneca s vaccine for use in people aged 18 years and over. ....
