But she was doing the democrats work. well, you know what? she s a show woman to be sure and it was a very theatrical and to many people, entertaining presentation. but now to what in earnest a lot of the cpac speeches dealt with and that was obamacare and doug, i got to say this new study by the left leaning urban institute reports that one in ten of uninsured americans enrolled in obamacare. that s an astonishing number. it means most of the people who signed up were already insured but got booted from their plans by obamacare. if the goal is to cover the uninsured, isn t this a conspicuous failure for the president so far? it certainly looks that way to me. and while sarah palin was compelling criticizing obamacare, i didn t hear an alternative policy. did you, gregg? ....
Better, more effectively, he can put those forward. but interestingly enough, in this 200-page report, not one alternative policy about how to do things better and make things work better for recipients of these programs. i want to jump to that back to you. i didn t give you a chance, cynthia. that s my question for you. is there a good way for progressives to make welfare better? of course there are. what are they? of course there is. there are programs that don t work nearly as well as they should. you know, paul ryan talks about head start. head start isn t effective. he talks about he cites several studies that show that head start hasn t worked nearly as well as we had hoped. he goes on to quote the studies that show that well-funded early education programs do work. sure. the house budget committee report says that well-funded early childhood education works. well, hasn t the president proposed well-funded early childhood education? ....
Went down from 26% to 16% because of all these anti-poverty programs of the federal government. and if you look at what has happened since the recession of 2008, certainly unemployment benefits, extending them, greater reliance on food stamps has kept millions of americans from falling into a real poverty trap. so if paul ryan sees redundancies and has ideas for making these systems work better, more effectively, he can put those forward. but interestingly enough, in this 200-page report, not one alternative policy about how to do things better and make things work better for recipients of these programs. i want to jump to that back to you. i didn t give you a chance, cynthia. that s my question for you. is there a good way for progressives to make welfare better? of course there are. what are they? of course there is. there are programs that don t work nearly as well as they should. you know, paul ryan talks about head start. head start isn t effective. he talks about he cit ....
Year. they have, first of all, when we were trying to pass the affordable care act, they had no idea that addressed the big issue. cost control, getting everyone on board and improving quality. they don t have a big idea. they have an important contradiction which is, oh, we don t want pre-existing condition exclusions. we want insurers to take everyone. if you will hold that, which is popular with the american public. as you pointed out, you have to have the mandate. thatry inextricably linked. if they will support the first, they don t know what to do. they don t like the mandate idea. i think that will hem them in. so they will never get a suitable alternative policy, without a suitable alternative policy, you can t find something something that s working, with nothing. you need something as an alternative. they ve never had an alternative or to the extent they have an alternative, it s very unpopular, which is getting the tax exclusion and giving people a $5,000 voucher, a vouche ....
I assume one will be framed at the president on this. does the president need to be sort of making a bigger speech to sort of explain his view of what s going on well, the thing is, as far as foreign policy is concerned, if these protests are directed against the united states, it s a problem for obama. if they are the result of internal fighting within the muslim world, as it was explained so well earlier in this program, it becomes the situation where do the voters want to change horses in midstream. and romney has to come up with a better alternative policy, that s going to be more attractive. i don t think this is necessarily as big of a problem for obama. we have to wait and see. shameless plug time. clarence? i want to give a plug to rahm emanuel for seeking an injunction in the strike in chicago. no reason why they can t go back to the table and talk. first strike in 25 years. both sides, a lot of egos going on. ....
