Accident Near Alpha Claims the Lives of Two Young Men

(Alpha, MN) We now know the details of a crash that happened at the intersection of county road 29 and county road 34 on Monday afternoon.  The Jackson County Sheriff Deputies responded to the two vehicle accident around 1:30.  A 2019 Peterbilt semi and bulk trailer driven by 23 year old Landon Bell, from Bryant, SD was traveling northbound on CR 29 and a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Mitchell Jarmer, age 24, from Westbrook, MN was traveling eastbound on CR 34.  The semi failed to yield at a stop sign and the two vehicles collided in the intersection.  Jarmer and a passenger, Jacob Peterson, age 26, from Dovry, MN were both pronounced dead at the scene.  Bell was not injured.  The Alpha Fire Department and First Responders, the Jackson Ambulance, the Jackson Fire Department, the MN State Patrol, and Borntrager Auto Body and Towing all assisted at the scene. ....

Federated members help fund local projects with Operation Round Up


$35,437 awarded in latest round of funding

JACKSON The Federated Rural Electric Trust, Jackson, recently recognized local organizations receiving $35,437 through Operation Round Up.
These donations occur due to monthly contributions by participating Federated members. A total of 29 groups received money in this 53rd round of funding:
The following organizations were funded: LaCrosse 4-H Club, Heron Lake, $250 in matching funds for HLO students’ “Caring Connection Shop” for school supplies, personal items, food, and gently used clothes; Martin County Historical Society, Fairmont, $400 to replace two mannequins to display historical clothing; JCC Middle School, Lakefield, $400 to buy “Sit & Knit” supplies for 25 students in grades 4-8; Jackson County Central Post Prom, $500 to hire post prom comedian to provide safe and fun prom; Jackson Boy Scout Pack 80, $500 to assist scouts who can’t afford to participate in Pine Wood ....
