A newly built $36 million student health clinic at UC Riverside aims to provide a wide array of medical and mental health services in an attractive building that showcases views of nearby mountains. The two-story Student Health and Counseling Center includes a food pantry, a pharmacy, an outdoor balcony for meditation and waiting rooms that look like hip hotel lobbies.
UC Riverside's new student health center puts previously scattered mental and medical services under one roof in a welcoming facility conveniently located near dorms.

The warming climate coaxed the arrival of a cherry blossom on March 26 in Kyoto. That is the earliest ever recorded since 1409. The date of the first Japanese cherry blossom to appear at Jisho Shrine, Kiyomizu Temple, in Kyoto has been tracked for 732 times since the year 812. This long and complete seasonal record serves as proxy evidence that phenologists use to study seasons and that haikuists can use to compare traditional and modern haiku. Subir Ningthouja awaited news of the cherry tree that is faithfully measured at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

The haikuist alludes to a Greek goddess who kept evil from entering the front door in exchange for an offering of dinner on the last day of the lunar month. Wolves go hungry this time of year, notes Anne-Marie McHarg in London. According to the Canadian edition of the Old Farmer’s Almanac, in early British colonial times wolves howled from the crossroads to villages.

A wolf was recently seen in Kall, Germany, running away from a hillside village of 70 people where Lothar M. Kirsch lives. The wolf has been quiet, so the news didn’t spread beyond the community, but the haikuist thinks “the wolf is too wise to announce his arrival in the Eifel Mountains.” The low mountain range is in North Rhine-Westphalia.
