The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 3,322 additional coronavirus cases Thursday, continuing the subsidence of the most recent wave, which started the first week of March and peaked April 16.
The seven-day moving average of newly reported cases was 3,391, down 20% from 4,259 a week ago, and down 16% from a month ago.
To date, there have been 1.15 million infections statewide since the start of the pandemic.
Vaccinations
While a declining case rate might be a cause for relief, a declining vaccination rate is a cause for concern among public health officials. Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the seven-day moving average of administered vaccinations has fallen by 24% from its peak April 11 through April 23. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published weekly first-dose COVID-19 vaccine allocations Tuesday night, including doses from Johnson & Johnson for the first time in three weeks. The J&J vaccine is unique in that it is a one-and-done shot preferred for use with hard-to-reach populations or those for whom a vaccination might be a traumatic experience.
The allotments represent the maximum number of doses health departments can order on behalf of vaccination providers under their auspices. ....
