A former Roxbury man captured by police in November, 40 years after allegedly sexually assaulting two young girls in Morris County and fleeing to Tennessee with a new identity, agreed Thursday to remain jailed pending the outcome of his case.
Richard A. Ziegler, 70, is accused of sexually assaulting the two victims, now adult women, while he was living with the girls who were in his care, in Roxbury between 1981 and 1987, according to police.
The alleged assaults were reported to Roxbury authorities on Oct. 11, 1989, but Ziegler had already fled to Oneida, Tennessee, where authorities say he fraudulently obtained a driver s license in 1991 under the name of Allen Richard Richards, according to a release by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. ....
