Parish President Jessie Bellard issued a statement today on Friday s arrest of the St. Landry Parish Animal Control Center s former director.
Stacey Alleman McKnight, who was the director from February 3, 2015, to March 8, 2020, was booked with three counts of theft of livestock by the Louisiana Livestock Brand Commission, and eight counts of theft, one count of injuring public records, and one count of malfeasance in office by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff s Office after an investigation began looking into missing horses at the Animal Control Center.
After taking office in August 2020 to fill the parish president s position, I asked the sheriff s department to start looking into the missing livestock at the parish s animal control center, said Jessie Bellard. Theft and malfeasances cannot be overlooked or ignored in government. St. Landry Parish Government will not tolerate this type of behavior. ....

Former Louisiana Animal Control Director Charged With Theft
A former Animal Control Director in Louisiana is facing criminal charges for alleged livestock theft and malfeasance in office.
Stacey Alleman McKnight, of St. Landry Parish, has turned herself into authorities in the wake of charges being filed against her. Those charges include eight counts of theft, malfeasance in office, and injuring public records.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told KLFY that in October of last year, deputies responded to a complaint call on theft of livestock, public files, and parish property.
Through their investigation, the deputies found out three horses were missing from the animal control center. Also missing were several cattle/horse panels, fencing, and kennels. It was also discovered McKnight had posted pictures on her social media accounts of the horses at her residence. ....
