AP7 broadens climate criteria, divests €27m of coal stocks

Sweden’s AP7 announced it is blacklisting all companies making new major investments in coal production and coal power, widening the scope of the climate-linked divestment policy it has followed up to now.
The SEK600bn (€59bn) state pension fund said the move to evolve its process linked to the Paris Agreement goals to mitigate climate change had meant the immediate exclusion of 10 firms from its investment portfolio.
The fund said it had just completed the sale of these stocks with a total value of SEK273m (€26.6m).
AP7, which manages the default option in Sweden’s defined contribution premium pension system, said in a statement: “The focus on coal companies is because research shows that the single most important method for mitigating climate change is to stop using coal as a source of energy.” ....

AP2 dumps fossil fuels as part of EU Paris-aligned benchmark take-up

Sweden’s AP2 has pulled out of fossil fuel companies in connection with portfolio changes leaning on rules for a recently introduced EU climate benchmark, the fund’s latest step towards the goal of aligning its investments with the Paris Agreement.
The state pensions buffer fund today announced it had adjusted its internal indices and portfolios for foreign equities and corporate bonds to ensure the holdings were consistent with the EU Paris-Aligned Benchmark (PAB).
The changes relate to half of AP2’s portfolio – AP2 has total assets of just over SEK360bn (€34.6bn). The fund said the adjustments had been made in such a way that the return and risk characteristics of its indices were not compromised. ....
