He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the death of 16-year-old Selena Apodaca and her 13-year-old sister, Isabella Severson. Jenny Perez, the mother, and Elysia Severson, Perez’s daughter, both survived but suffered severe injuries.Perez and Severson watched through a computer screen as Furne made his case to the parole board to be let out of jail after serving two and a half years of his 10-year sentence.“Every day I cry,” Perez told the board. “It feels like somebody took my breath away. Thirty-two months doesn’t seem very long to me.” Perez and her daughter remember the day the crash happened.
