Rivers Angels stars Oghenebrume Ikhekua and Abiodun Ajibola are hoping to be part of history by qualifying for the inaugural CAF Womens Champions League holding in May.
The Port Harcourt-based club beat Sunshine Stars 4-0 at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode on Sunday to claim the Nigeria Women’s Football League title, following a Super Six format adopted by the league organisers.
Goals from Ikhekua, Vivian Ikechukwu, Alice Ogebe and Maryann Ezenagu helped Edwin Okon’s side retain the title they won last season.
Tournament top scorer Ikhekua said, “We prepared really hard for this competition because we want to make history and thank God we were able to achieve that objective.

The 2020-2021 season of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership was brought to a fitting end on Sunday, with River Angels of Port Harcourt successfully defending their crown with a flourishing 4-0 win over Sunshine Queens of Akure.
The Port-Harcourt-based side won the last edition of the NWFL Premiership in 2019 since there was no competition for the 2019-20 season due to Coronavirus pandemic; and they finished yet again on top at the end of NWFL Super Six Tournament put in place after the regular season was cut short.
