My friend gave me the name of a book recently saying how much she thought I would enjoy it. The book was a memoir by Alice Carrière about her decades-long struggle with mental illness Everything/Nothing/Someone that was published last year. As my pal predicted, I did love it and spent a feverish few days devouring it with a mixture of anguish and awe. Carrière has been through an awful lot and her unflinching prose is incredible but what I could not get over was that here at last, nearly 20 years later, I was reading about someone who went through the same kind of breakdown that I did at 22. ....
