Old Bridge Man Sentenced In DUI Crash That Killed MIT Student

OLD BRIDGE, NJ An Old Bridge man was sentenced this week for killing a woman, Aliza Akhtar, 19, and for injuring her passenger. Akhtar, who is from Old Bridge and was a student at MIT at the time of her death.
On Wednesday, Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, now 30, of Old Bridge, was sentenced to an aggregate fifteen years in prison on one count of second-degree vehicular homicide and one count of third-degree aggravated assault. The judge also ordered his license be revoked for a period of thirty years.
Tsytsenia previously pleaded guilty in the crash, and admitted he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal crash. ....

Old Bridge man sentenced to 15 years in prison, loss of license due to drunken auto fatality
An Old Bridge man has been sentenced for killing a teenager and injuring her passenger during a drunk driving crash last year.
Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 30, of Old Bridge, was sentenced to an aggregate 15 years in prison on one count of second-degree vehicular homicide and one count of third-degree aggravated assault, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department on Dec. 16.
The Honorable Diane Pincus, J.S.C. ordered Tsytsenia’s prison sentences be served consecutively. Tsytsenia will have to serve the first 8-and-a-half years of his sentence without parole, pursuant to the No Early Release Act, according to the statement. ....

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) A judge sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for causing a crash in New Jersey that claimed the life of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology student and injured her sister.
Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 30, of Old Bridge, must serve 8 1/2 years before he’ll be eligible for parole under the sentence handed out Wednesday.
He pleaded guilty in May to vehicular homicide and aggravated assault.
Tsytsenia admitted he was driving under the influence of alcohol in May 2019 when he crossed over double yellow lines to pass and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Aliza Akhtar. ....
