Our view is it s going to be better if we don t have facial recognition used as evidence in court, because the investigators are using other methods to also verify. shouldn t it be interrogated in court, if it is being used to find people? we re happy to testify how the algorithms work, how accurate they are, but any of these mistakes have been made with facial recognition, and none of them made with clearview, have come down to poor policing or investigative work, not checking or not having other people look at the results of the facial recognition just basic stuff. have there been any mistakes from the police using clearview? not that we know of. in many places in the us, the police often don t have to divulge whether they even use facial recognition. we have no idea how many people have been arrested because of this technology. but a few cities have pushed back. in san francisco, the police s use of facial recognition technology is banned. ....

Recognition is inaccurate, it s dangerous, it is a huge problem for civil liberties and civil rights, and it absolutely needs to be banned. hoan ton that accepts bias can be a problem but believes the technology needs to be regulated, not banned. we engage with lawmakers a lot, it is really up to them to decide with the regulations should be. yeah, i think racial bias is a really important issue to look at. i am a person of mixed race myself i am half asian and australian, so when we look at making the algorithm more accurate, we are always thinking about all these ethnicities, so southeast asians, asians, african phases to make sure the algorithm is not biased, and i think there are two parts to bias there s bias in the policing world and there s bias in the algorithms, so we worked really hard to make sure that this algorithm works across all demographics as best as possible. ....

Suffered right after social media was introduced. so we really do have more of that evidence now for causation. is it possible that those most likely to be anxiety ridden or depressed are also the ones most eager to go online and it becomes self-perpetuating? that s probably playing somewhat of a role. it can be cyclical. both things are going on. that explanation doesn t work very well for explaining generational trends, for explaining why teen depression doubled between 2011 and 2019 even before the pandemic. but not a coincidence that was the same time when smartphones became common, social media became ubiquitous, the algorithms on social media became more sophisticated and kept teens on for longer. ....

Washington that can divide us, that can divide americans. but when it comes to parents having a say on what their children are seeing and doing online, i think you have brought agreement on it. that s why we have age-old restrictions on what meyers can do in the real world, we simply want to apply that same to the digital world. their bill sets age 13 as the legal minimum for social media platforms. requiring companies to conduct a more rigorous a verification, teens under 18 would need verified parental consent to sign up for an account. and platforms would be prohibited from using algorithms to target content to minors. a spokesperson for meta which operates facebook and instagram said that the company is still reviewing the legislation. in a statement, the company s global head of safety said meta has tools that help parents and teens limit the amount of time teen spent on instagram, and quote, don t allow content that promotes suicide, self harm, or eating disorders. esposito now ....
