Swine fever kills over 500 pigs in Kitgum, pork eating banned February 17, 2021 Pigs in a sty Government has banned the movement, slaughter and consumption of pork in Kitgum following the death of more than 500 pigs due to an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak. The deaths have been reported in the villages of Bajere, Bajere East, Bajere South, Okwici East and Oget in Labongo Akwang sub-county. The incident has created panic and left many pig farmers in the affected areas counting heavy losses. The district secretary for production and marketing Emmanuel Langabi Oryema says the ban is imposed to stop farmers from carrying infected pigs to areas without the infections so as to avoid further spread. ....
Daily Monitor Wednesday February 10 2021 Advertisement Residents of Labongo Akwang Sub-county in Kitgum District are counting losses after losing about 120 pigs to a disease they suspect to be African swine fever. Mr Charles Oyo Adot Labongo, the sub-county chairperson, said the affected pigs present symptoms such as coughing, difficulties in breathing, loss of appetite and difficulties in standing, all of which are associated with swine fever. He said the disease has been reported in the parishes of Lamit, Mura and Pajimo. The affected villages in Lamit Parish include Pem, Vitnam, Tet-Lagwer and Adye, while those in Mura Parish include Palli and Oget. ....
