47abc May 28, 2021 DOVER, Del.- For the 12th consecutive season, Cape Henlopen girls lacrosse took home the DIAA girls lacrosse state title. The Vikings took down undefeated, number one ranked Tatnall 16-10. The Vikings came out like they were ready to hoist that 12th trophy. Cape race out to a 12-3 lead at the break, leading by as many as ten in the first half. Senior Emily Monigle with two goals in the first, paired with a few from Ella Rishko and Kelly Bragg the difference for the Vikes. In the second half, the Hornets showed why they were undefeated in the regular season. Led by sophomore Kali Clayton and junior Teryn Singer, Tatnall stormed back to cut the lead to just four with ten minutes left to play in regulation and it looked like the Vikings streak may be in danger. ....

DAVE FREDERICK PHOTOS Dave Frederick April 25, 2021 The Cape girls’ lacrosse team posted a 13-1 crooked number on the Worcester Prep Fighting Mallards April 24 on the way to an 18-2 victory. The win boosted Cape’s record to 7-1 on the season, while Worcester fell to 4-1. Cape got four goals from Haley Craig and Carrie Clauius; three from Emily Monigle; and two from Kelly Bragg. Single goals were scored by Riley Keen, Molly Mendez, Lulu Rishko, Maren Buckaloo and Grace Wiggins. Cape assists were Craig and Clausius with three; Keen, Mendez and Ella Rishko with two; and Lexi Nowakowski and Bragg with one. Saves in goal for Cape were Destiny Kusen with four and Anna Lopez with two. ....

The Cape girls’ lacrosse team won 11 straight state championships and were hunting for No. 12 last spring when COVID-19 shut down the season. Seven seniors including Talbot Buck, Anna Stancofski, Delaney Zolper, Meredith Lockwood, Sawyer Walker, Lola Messick and Lee Lee Wilson missed out on another state title, Senior Night and high school graduation. “It was just awful, especially for the seniors,” said coach Lindsey Underwood, who had guided Cape to three state championships since taking over from the Zen Master P.J.
