In the Dardalis Archives of the Hellenic Diaspora, a document from 1997 was found listing the volunteers of the Australian Greek Welfare Society (AGWS), known today as PRONIA who were predominately female.
The seminar, scheduled for Thursday 10 August at the Greek Centre, will provide valuable insights into the pioneering efforts of these women who championed welfare rights, health interpretation, and advocacy for migrant and non-English-speaking communities.
A seminar series exploring the history of the Greek community is set to take place at the Greek Centre from next week, beginning with the history of this newspaper, Neos Kosmos.
La Trobe University's Greek Studies Program, the Dardalis Archives of the Hellenic Diaspora, and the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria jointly present as series of seminars delving into the History of the Greeks in Australia.
