For about 20 years or so, beginning at about 1840, prior to settling at our place in the capital here, we met at the grand council of our tribal towns until about 1861. 1861 was the arrival of the statesar for the united and pretty much everyone. Post the civil war, we had to sign the treaty, as many other tribes who found themselves involved in the civil war.
