Trine inducts 34 into Order of Engineer


ANGOLA — Thirty-four seniors in Trine University’s Allen School of Engineering & Technology were inducted into the Order of the Engineer during a Wednesday ceremony.
The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. The Order of the Engineer is an association for graduate and professional engineers in the United States that emphasizes pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. It was inspired by the success of The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer, a similar and much older Canadian ceremony, and is a common presence in American engineering schools. ....

Trine recognizes distinguished students for Class of 2021

The Robert B. Stewart Award is presented to the graduate who most clearly exemplifies the traditions and values of Trine University through achievement in scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Each academic school at Trine nominates a graduating senior for this award; Pessell represented the Allen School of Engineering and Computing.
Pessell maintained a 4.0 grade point average during his time at Trine. He completed a research experience for undergraduates during the summer of 2019 at the University of Maryland, and has been involved with research for Blaire Biomedical, a local company developing a handheld device that performs blood tests when linked to a smartphone. ....

Trine senior selected for prestigious research fellowship


ANGOLA — Following in the footsteps of Nobel Prize winners and other prominent scientists, a Trine University senior has been selected for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program.
Arcadia, Ohio, native Alexander Pessell will graduate in May with a degree in biomedical engineering and has been accepted into the biomedical engineering Ph.D. program at Johns Hopkins University.
“The fellowship assists me and Johns Hopkins in funding my graduate school education,” Pessell said. “It also gives me the ability to round out my professional development through opportunities provided by the National Science Foundation.”
The oldest STEM fellowship program in the United States, the GRFP, through a competitive selection process, recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees.
