Home Alone 3 movie review & film summary (1997)

Call me hard-hearted, call me cynical, but please don't call me if they make “Home Alone 3.” These words, from my review of “Home Alone 2,” now have to be eaten. To my astonishment, I liked the third “Home Alone” movie better than the first two; I'm even going so far as to recommend it, although not to grownups unless they are having a very silly day. This movie follows the exact formula of the first two, but is funnier and gentler, has a real charmer for a hero, and provides splendid wish fulfillment and escapism for kids in, say, the lower grades. There is even a better rationale for why the hero is left home alone. Played by a winning newcomer named Alex D. Linz, who seems almost too small for a middle initial, the kid gets the chicken pox. His dad is out of town on business, his mom has an emergency at the office, and his brother and sister are at school. So he's left home alone, with a beeper number, a fax number, a cell phone number, the number of Mrs. Hes

Franciscan Health Michigan City planning blood drives

The need for blood donations has soared along with COVID-19 deaths, which are closing in on 400,000 in the United States and just hit a new daily record of more than 4,300. Blood shortages have been reported nationwide during the coronavirus pandemic, with life-saving blood supplies dwindling, putting patients in emergency rooms and hospitals at risk.  Franciscan Health Michigan City has scheduled two blood drives to help make up for the lack of donations taking place at workplaces and schools during a time of remote work and e-learning. Versiti Blood Center will accept donations outside Entrance A at the hospital, at 3500 Franciscan Way, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27 and from 2 to 6 p.m. Jan. 28.

Northwest Health honors extraordinary nurses with Daisy Awards

Northwest Health has honored two nurses with Daisy Awards for extraordinary and compassionate service. The annual awards were established to honor the late J. Patrick Barnes, whose family wanted to recognize the nurses who treated him after he died at 33 in 1999 because of complications from the idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura autoimmune disease. The health care system honored Patricia (Patti) Martin, the manager of the Infusion Center at Northwest Health — Porter, with a Daisy Award. “It is difficult to find words to express my gratitude for line nurse Patti Martin at Northwest Health — Porter, said the patient who nominated here. She was my first nurse when I began cancer treatment in summer 2019. She took my first blood draw for labs and accessed my port-a-catheter the first time. I was anxious about my first port access. Patti s steady hands and gentle approach made the access absolutely painless along with every time since the first visit.
