Canton Daily Ledger IOWA CITY, IOWA Despite this year s unprecedented challenges, students continue to excel at the University of Iowa. As the latest cohort of Hawkeyes prepares to graduate, their accomplishments are celebrated. In December, more than 2,100 University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students graduated under extraordinary circumstances. With the coronavirus pandemic upending traditional educational practices across campus and the country-including commencement ceremonies-2020 proved to be a challenging year. Alex Briney, Astoria, is one of the graduates. Briney earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa s College of Engineering. Since March, Briney and other students at Iowa made sacrifices to maintain health and safety. Instruction for a majority of courses moved online, face masks and hand sanitizer became the norm, internships and study abroad programs were largely suspended, stages remaine ....
Canton Daily Ledger MACOMB/MOLINE Six students graduating from Western Illinois University at the end of the Fall 2020 semester have received the highest recognition from their colleges for their overall academic excellence by being named a College Scholar. The Fall 2020 Commencement and Scholars ceremonies, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, will be held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremonies will be launched by college on WIU s Facebook page and YouTube channel at 10 a.m. Dec. 19. Faculty in each of the University s four academic colleges; the Center for Global Studies and the Centennial Honors College select a graduating senior as the college s outstanding student. Students graduating as College Scholars have satisfied the criteria of excellence established by their individual academic college s faculty members.
