dengue: Dengue risk re-evaluated: India research finds first infections can be as severe as secondary

A recent study conducted in India challenges the common belief that dengue becomes severe only during secondary infections. Published in Nature Medicine, the research reveals that the first bout of dengue can be equally life-threatening. Led by researchers at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in New Delhi, the study analyzed severe dengue cases in children, showing that more than half were attributed to primary infections.
