Coeur d'Alene Fire, Agency on Aging team up to get vaccines to homebound people

COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho Talk about protect and serve; North Idaho firefighters are bringing the vaccine to the front door for people who can’t get out to get vaccinated.
The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department has teamed up with the Area Agency on Aging of North Idaho to help get the COVID-19 vaccine to those people who are now homebound.
“Oh that stuff [COVID] will kill you, I mean it’s really, it can kill you so I feel glad that I did that,” said David Brown.
Brown is glad he heard about the chance to get the COVID-19 vaccine through Meals on Wheels. The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and the Area Agency on Aging of North Idaho has been using that connection as a way to initially reach out and see which homebound people need the vaccine. ....

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho A new program will help homebound people in North Idaho get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The program is made possible through a partnership between the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, the Area Agency on Aging of North Idaho and the Panhandle Health District.
Services begin Wednesday and will continue for three weeks; there will be an ongoing assessment of need after the first few weeks.
The program is available to any homebound citizien within the area the Panhandle Health District serves, as well as their direct care providers.
Those looking to get a vaccine will be visited by an EMT from the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, along with a volunteer from the Area Agency on Aging. They will drive to the home of the individual and administer the vaccine on-site, at no cost. ....

It could be days before the lights come back on for thousands of families in Spokane.
If you were to walk down 20th Avenue near Monroe on the South Hill, it’s like a tale of two cities.
Families on the south side of 20th Avenue have power. The north side is still dark.
“Today’s getting pretty cold in there,” said Dan Kuhlmann who lives on the street.
He’s been without power since Wednesday. Avista’s outage map tells him it might be out until Sunday night.
“It’s a while. Fortunately, I have family that live on the north side and they have power. I was able to empty out my freezer and refrigerator and take that stuff over there in they’re housing it for us,” he told 4 News Now. ....

Thousands across the region remain in the dark after Wednesday’s deadly windstorm.
The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department wants the public to remain safe during this time and offered a few tips for those who may be relying on generators.
Always have a licensed electrician connect generators to your home power supply if you intend it to be a permanent solution. Improper installation can damage your home electrical system and increase fire danger.
If you have a portable generator, ensure it has proper capacity to power your lights and appliances.
Use proper sized extension cords for desired wattage needs. ....
