After two recent teenage drunk driving related deaths, several departments came together to host an event intended to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and distracted. The Clarkstown Police Department, New City Fire Department, New City Ambulance Corp, STAT Med Evac, Higgins Funeral Home, and Clarkstown Town Justice David Ascher, presented a mock DWI accident scene at Zukor Park on Wednesday. “Our communities are still reeling from these losses,” said Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann. “We have to learn from them.” This slideshow requires JavaScript. COVID clinic at high school puts focus on vaccines for teens

Vaccination rates tend to be lower in areas with economic challenges and hit hard by COVID. BARDONIA - Chris Metcalf was the first Albertus Magnus High School student to get the first dose of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday in the school s gym. Applause erupted after the 16-year-old sophomore s shot was complete. The Valley Cottage resident didn t feel a thing when he got the shot, but having a vaccine feels like a big deal. Every town supervisor, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Good Samaritan Hospital CEO Dr. Mary Leahy and other dignitaries  cheered on the students, called vaccine ambassadors for younger Rocklanders. Day lauded the students who were awaiting their vaccinations, saying while many young people think inwardly they were thinking about what should I do for the greater good.
