Motorcycle Mecca in Austria burns
A bad news surprised motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world: the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum – the motorcycle museum located on the border between Italy and Austria – was destroyed in a fire on monday night.
The fire broke out just before 5am, destroying pretty much the totality of the collection hosted in the museum, fortunately without harming any employees.
The flames began to spread and, according to local media, would have started right from the Top Mountain Crosspoint, the futuristic multifunctional building that also houses the beautiful museum of vintage motorcycles.
About a hundred firefighters from the area intervened on the spot, but the modern 3,000 square meter structure, made mostly of wood, couldn’t be savaged.

From the storming at America s Capitol to the escalation of Covid-19, 2021 has certainly kicked off with a hiss and a roar, and a fire at one of Europe s best automotive museums has only added to this.
Located in Hochgurgl, Austria, the TOP Motorcycle Museum housed over 200 classic motorcycles, as well as a few extremely rare cars, and was left a smoldering wreck after the blaze passed through.
According to a local report, the fire started at around four in the morning, and quickly spread around the wooden building, making it almost impossible to battle. The fact that the museum is located in a snowy alpine region only hampered fire fighter s attempts to put it out.

More than 200 classic motorcycle feared lost in inferno.
Austria’s Top Mountain Crosspoint motorcycle museum has been destroyed by fire. Over 200 classic motorcycles (and cars) may be a total loss. The museum is at the base of the Timmelsjoch pass road that connects Austria and Italy. It is Europe’s highest motorcycle museum located at about 7,135 feet MSL.
It has (perhaps had) one of the most extensive and valuable motorcycle collections in Europe. Over 230 classic motorcycles called the Top Mountain Crosspoint museum home. With classic bikes from 120 international manufacturers and hand-picked curiosities, the facility measured more than 2,600 square meters (nearly 30,000 sq. ft.). Inside were motorcycle exhibits starting with the year 1894. Inside are examples from Vincent, Brough Superior, Sunbeam, Matchless, Zundapp, and many more.
