Nigerien poll runoff: Dahiru Mangal's push for Bazoum raises dust


Bazoum and 29 other contestants were unable to garner 50.1% of the total votes cast as required by the country’s constitution to emerge the winner in the December 27 presidential poll, hence Sunday’s second round.
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, CENI, Nigerien electoral body of the December poll, showed that Bazoum – the candidate of the ruling party, Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS), scored 39.33 percent with 1,879,000 votes, while former President Mohammed Ousmane scored 16.99 percent with 811,838 votes.
Former prime ministers Seini Oumarou and Albade Abouba respectively came third and fourth with 8.95 percent and 7.07 percent of the ballots.
Aside the donation of vehicles, a source around Bazoum, said the Katsina-born business tycoon has been reaching out to his preferred candidate, an intervention that reportedly gave him an edge over other candidates.  He was said to have met with the former Foreign Affair ....

Niger heads for second round of Presidential polls

Almost 7.5 million people in Niger are expected to cast their vote in a run-off Sunday.
During the first election on December 27, 2020, none of the 30 validated candidates for the election secured a majority of the votes and this pushed the election into a run-off where the two front runners are in contention.
The Presidential run-off is between Mohamed Bazoum from the ruling Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS) and former President Mahamane Ousmane of the Renewed Democratic and Republican Party.
