Three full days of public submissions made for plenty of suggestions and criticisms from the public for the council’s plans, so this week’s column looks at some highlights. On the first day of the hearings on Tuesday, there was a broad range of speakers and topics brought to the table. While some submitters used their five or 10 minutes of speaking time to focus on a single issue, others took aim at a wide range of topics in the short time allocated. ....
Tim O Connell/Stuff Tāhunanui man Alastair Cotterill has collected 70 bags of rubbish and debris from around the street and local beach reserve over a few days. Dismayed by the state of his neighbourhood of 30 years, a Tāhunanui resident has taken out the trash to preserve jewel in the crown . Beginning just after Christmas and continuing throughout summer, Alastair Cotterill spent a number of days cleaning gutters of leaves and rubbish around Tāhunanui Beach Reserve and carpark, Muritai St and Tāhunanui Drive. He also cleared sand from footpaths at the Lions Playground which had built up, affecting access to parents with prams and wheelchair users. ....
