Gov. Mike Dunleavy is at it again with his almost $300 million proposed budget cuts and his proposal to give Permanent Fund dividends of almost $5,000 per qualified Alaskan at the expense of depleting the Permanent Fund’s sustainability. Where is the money going to come from to cover the billions of dollars that the state of Alaska has in been in deficit for the past several years?
As a cash-poor rural village Alaskan, I do not mind the $5,000 dividend only if the source of the dividend money was guaranteed to be sustainable, like it was from 1980 to 2015. Does the governor’s budget cut reduction include the Power Cost Equalization program (PCE) that somewhat reduces rural electric energy costs, in particular member villages of the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, Inc.? ....
