Greytown people have roundly rejected the prospect of having to drive to other towns to drop off their rubbish and recycling. Residents like Shelagh and Alan Wilde aren’t on any collection routes and would have to drive an extra 14 kilometres to drop off their recycling in Featherston if South Wairarapa District Council goes ahead with a proposal to close Greytown’s transfer station. “We pay rates, but we don’t have any rubbish collection or anything like that, so we need the transfer station in town. It would be a major inconvenience for me to go down to Featherston,” said Shelagh Wilde. ....
