The following is a release from the City Of Pittsfield.
As COVID-19 vaccinations continue throughout the Commonwealth and across the country, city and health officials are urging the public to be cautious in light of a growing number of vaccination scams targeting users through multiple platforms.

The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine continues, with congregate care staff and residents up next. But the vast majority of Berkshire County residents are not yet eligible for the vaccine, and strict eligibility restrictions have prompted frustration and questions. Even as other states kick off vaccinations for anyone 65 and older, local officials are required to follow the commonwealth s timeline.
State officials have estimated that the vaccination process will last until June, but local officials say there are too many moving factors to predict when the region might reach a high enough vaccination rate to return to normal life. So far, the county has received enough vaccine for more than 6 percent of its residents, though not all doses have been administered yet. ....

Five coronavirus infections linked to Walmart employees

PITTSFIELD — Amid a deluge of new coronavirus infections in the city over the past several days, a local health official said Friday the city learned five Walmart workers tested positive for COVID-19.
The city first became aware of the first of the positive cases among Walmart employees on Tuesday, said Dr. Alan Kulberg, chair of the city’s Board of Health.
Subsequent contact tracing led health leaders to the conclusion that four employees went to a private gathering where transmission occurred.
“We believe that this gathering was the location where transmission occurred amongst a number of people,” said Kulberg, adding that the “was not at work nor was it sanctioned by Walmart.” ....

Quote
We’re seeing a big bump in cases now. So, we were planning for it, and expecting that there was going to be a rise.
— Dr. Alan Kulberg, chairman of the city s Board of Health
They expected a surge in new infections after the holidays. And sure enough, test results received last week contained the highest concentration of particles of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus, of any test since the city began monitoring sewage for the virus over the summer, according to Ricardo Morales, commissioner of Public Services and Utilities.
A test kit consists of three vials and some ice packs for sewage samples to be sent to a lab for the novel coronavirus RNA.  ....

Looking Back At 2020: COVID-19 In Berkshire County

“Our next facility after that will be Mount Greylock on the 2nd of January, followed by Williamstown Commons on the 4th, and then we have North Adams and Hillcrest Commons on the 8th, she said.
At the county’s largest hospital – Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield – nurses feuded with management over mask policy, with RNs like Mark Brodeur insisting the company supply all frontline workers with the then-scarce N95 masks as potential COVID-19 exposures ran rampant through the staff.
“Since a patient could have been exposed and shedding the virus without any symptoms, at this point in order to reduce the spread it’s important to assume that every single patient you have contact with has the coronavirus in order just to flatten that curve and ensure that the spread is slowed down as much as possible so that all of our resources aren’t overwhelmed at one time,” he told WAMC. ....
