Yvonne Anderson carries her Chihuahua, Lola, that is dressed in a Frida Kahlo-inspired costume during the 2019 Fiesta Pooch Parade to benefit Therapy Animals of San Antonio at the Alamo Heights Pool grounds on Saturday, Apr. 27, 2019. This year s event was bittersweet due to the death of Norma Brooks who suffered in a car wreck days before she and her dog, Shanti, were to honored in the parade as King Anbarkio on Saturday. Friends, family and supporters wore t-shirts imprinted with a photo of Brooks and Shanti as they took part in the parade. Brooks sons Dalton and Cody along with family members remembered her during the event. Despite the solemn mood, many pet owners came out with their dogs festooned in colorful and imaginative costumes. Many lined the streets in the Alamo Heights neighborhood to watch the parade.
